When serving a kick serve, right-handed players toss the ball over their left shoulder, arch their back, bend at the knees and then jump up off the court. The end result is that the racquet head strikes the ball in a direction that is partly sideways across the back of the ball and partly vertical up the back of the ball, as shown in Fig. 1.

Stand with both feet comfortably apart (about shoulder width). The front foot should be about 45 degrees to the baseline. The back foot should be about parallel to the baseline.
